About Me

Hi, I'm Tate. 

I created "ART OF FINANCE" in 2025 to help aspiring financial professionals, entrepreneurs, and investors build sustainable wealth by developing long-term value investing skills.

We emulate the greatest, wisest investors of the modern era: Buffett, Munger, Graham, & Dodd.

Why I started "ART OF FINANCE" --

My journey in finance began in 2008 during the financial crisis. I was young at the time, but I remember watching the news and feeling intimidated by the financial jargon, like "mortgage-backed securities," "credit default swaps," and "leverage."

I wanted to understand this complicated world so that I could protect my family and friends from the increasing financial insecurity in the world. 

I was fortunate to study finance in college at BYU, and even more fortunate to learn from great mentors in my professional roles. 

My mentors taught me how to value companies, build dynamic financial models, and drill down into the nitty-gritty of financial statements. 

During the COVID-19 crisis, I raised money and built residential homes. In 2022, I found myself stuck between a rock and a hard place -- inflation was rising causing construction costs to soar, meanwhile, rising interest rates increased borrowing costs and limited new sales. 

Feeling stuck, I met with the lender on a particular project, a seasoned bank president of 40+ years. I asked him his advise as he looked out the window. After thinking for a minute or two, he turned to me and said, "I don't have any advice for you. We've never seen something like this before." 

Then he paused, and what he said struck me to my core: "I don't envy your generation. You're going to have a lot of challenges to figure out."

He was right. 

We face many challenges in the world ahead, in both our personal financial lives and the wider global monetary system. 

Now, more than anytime in recent history, we need financial wisdom to protect our families, communities, nation, and world. We need to continue the American dream and continue building wealth for all people.

This is what I hope to accomplish with "ART OF FINANCE," to help others recognize their gifts for the greater good, and help entrepreneurs, professionals, and investors maximize longterm wealth.
